Mardi Gras Madness PDF Print E-mail
Written by Dean Flewwellin

Ahhhh.....Mardi Gras is upon us again, where the "Who Dat Nation" goes berserk every year.   February is the magic month, and now that the New Orleans Saints are going to the Super Bowl, the two parades that day have been moved back to earlier starting times.   This is so everyone will be able to watch the game and because there might not be anybody but little rug-rats lining the parade route.

BOY HOUSE PDF Print E-mail
Written by Dean Flewwellin

Woods, Leaves, Trees, Hut

4 blocks from waves breaking on beach
3 sturdy trees in a woodsy setting
2 boys with ambitious plans
1 day happily working
Zero tolerance for girls.
Fall leaves dancing from an offshore breeze
Keeping buzzing skeeters at bay
Watching for critters, chiggers, and snakes
Or scorpions on the prowl
Ignoring a dusty day of danger.
Boisterous boundless energy unfolding
With flowing boyish banter
Air filled with singing, yelling and stories
Building bonding for a lifetime
Reaching for the zenith of completion.
Old Glory and Red Dragon flags unfurled
Proudly laying claim to the forest
Our day is done - trees, leaves, and bugs at rest
As the pastels of sunset beautify our dream
A heartwarming sense of achievement overwhelms.
A blazing sunrise awakens to our worldly wonder
Anxiously approaching our house amid shades of brown
Suddenly stunned by wreckage all around
A tree-hut no more and both so unsure
Fast fury and mysterious mayhem reasoning.
Who and why destruction of a dream
Tracked them down - two brothers Italian
Moved away - never forgotten for years
Returned, walking home from school - there they stood
Not knowing me, beat them up, the score was settled.
Never to be forgotten by all concerned in Jacksonville Beach, Florida.

Love Is A Many Splendored Thing PDF Print E-mail

Well.....Splenda is not splendor, but both are awfully sweet!   The splendors of love were once explained to me by a Lady Love as "Love me - love my dog."   I had loads of love for her, but that tiny loud obnoxious chihuahua nipping at my ankles drove me bananas.   Guess he was piffed that I was always leashing him to a doorknob.

Bombastic Boys Of Bombay PDF Print E-mail
Written by Dean Flewwellin

On a beautiful sunny Florida day, two college boys knocked on the door of my West Palm Beach apartment.   They had heard at the local college that I was about to move, so they wanted to rent my apartment.   They had recently graduated from the University of Bombay in India and were there to obtain their Master's Degrees.   Eventually, I found out that they had already passed the same courses in Bombay.   Thus, they were seeking an easy way to obtain their Masters.   Also, there were about two dozen of their fellow classmates in town for the same reason.
