It's The Oscars! Where Are You, Billy Crystal? PDF Print E-mail

Let me be the first to say, tonight's intro to the Academy Awards was so very awkward.   It involved Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin trying to do slap-stick and predictable comedy.   It was painful to watch and painful to listen to--so I didn't.

It sounded like Steve Martin was reading his lines, and rather stiltedly.   It was embarrassing.   In fact, it's still going on, so it's still embarrassing.   Damn, I hate uncomfortable situations.   I just hate them!   Should I turn off the awards, to 'not' see Steve Martin insult the nominees (WTH was that all about, any way?).   This is not a 'roast', but an acting award.

And the audience, God bless them, is trying to laugh with glee, but are falling short.   Awkward--for Steve and them.   He should have prepared better or perhaps drank less?   I bet I know someone who won't be asked back.

Then they have these actors who announce winners.   These announcers are trying their hand at comedy--live, for the first time.   Just not a good idea, ya know what I mean?   Live comedy, and you're not a comedian?

As I latched onto the commercial breaks with great anticipation and relish, I turned off the awards and breathed a great sigh of relief.

I'll see the winners on the news and forego the
horse and pony show.   Am I the only one who misses Billy?

BUT I REALLY REALLY MISS BOB HOPE!
Mean Dean - 03-09-2010 17:08

B) I wholeheartedly agree...bring back Billy Crystal! Comedian's like Steve Martin & David Lettermen are simply silly, & tend to appeal to those of lower expectations & expectorations. Hey...the audience is mostly actors acting for the cameras too. The Oscars appear to be going the way of the Democrats, probably because most of them ARE Democrats. They don't make very many really good movies any more, but lots of them are for kids. For the past 8 years, I've checked out over 400 FREE movies from my local library. All movie theater prices now suggest that the end doesn't justify the means. I now wait for the decent ones to appear on TV.
