Dear Bryanna,

How are you?   We miss you terribly.   Your children are growing so much.    They are fine young men.   One is in college, and is going to your Alma Mater.   He really wanted to become closer to you.   You remember the oak barrel you gave me when Jim and I dog-sat your pooch?   Austin remembered it, so I gave it to him.

You always were so generous--to everyone, and it brought back another memory.

I had a flashback of you and me.   What triggered the memory was my eating red hots.  Remember how mama and daddy would get the Brach's candy from the store?  There was a scoop, and one would pay by the pound?   We'd each get a white bag and choose our favorite candy, go home, and eat our bags of yummies--except you.   You always loved to savor your candy--especially chocolate.   But not I.   I would eat it up.   I loved going and choosing either the triple-flavored coconut candy or the red hots.   I always loved the red hots--except, I think, they called them cinnamon candies, or something like that.

Well, as usual, I ate mine so quickly and greedily.  But not you.  You always had yours for days.

One day, after a candy run, you found me in your room.   It was such a pretty room, with little pink rose wallpaper and Great-grandma Kittie's wicker furniture.   It was my favorite room in the house.   I always found it so peaceful.   It had your scent all over it.   And you always smelled so good.   Well, anyway, I went in there to eat my mother-load of candy, and did.   When the candy was gone, I was devastated.

When you came into the room and saw my distress,  you asked me what was wrong.   I showed you my empty white bag, and you smiled--that knowing smile you always had for me.   You reached into your closet, got out your stash of candy and handed it to me--all of it, and smiled again.   I remember that smile, but more importantly, I remember you.

I still can't believe you are dead.

What impresses me, is that Bryanna continues to GIVE through the writings of her family. I am also sure, that she would have been extremely happy, as well as impressed, with the beneficial journalistic impressions that they continue to convey.

this is but one of a million memories. bryanna was an unusual person in countless ways. she inspired, loved, generated the best in all. she was a conservative, liberal, religious, irreligious, funny, predictable, unpredictable, lover of the poor and needy (and she attempted to rectfy those situations), unselfish baby, toddler, teen, woman. i can't believe she is no longer here with us, either.
